Why is Avengers: Doomsday not playing in IMAX?
The evidence
The confirmation came from IMAX, not from either studio.
The claim traces to IMAX’s own investor presentation, slide 13, reported by two outlets on February 26, 2026. Neither Disney nor Warner Bros. announced it, and neither confirmed anything for this page.
How long it lasts is genuinely disputed, and the sources differ in quality.
The version that traces to the IMAX investor presentation describes the opening weekend. A widely repeated three-week version traces to a post on the account Empire City Box Office on X, reported by a film blog that hedged it with “apparently”. Both AI answer engines we measured gave the three-week figure.
Disney launched a competing format seven weeks later.
Disney announced Infinity Vision, its own premium large-format certification program, at CinemaCon on April 16, 2026, and reported more than 7,500 screen certification applications by late June. IMAX’s own chief financial officer called it a marketing play. That response is a revealed price for premium-format access, and it is larger than one weekend of forgone premium tickets.
Doomsday still leads every demand measure we took.
On October 24, 2026 the head search term ran 1,220,000 against 60,500, a 95.3% share. Trailer searches 96.8%, official-trailer comments 86.1%, trailer views 64.9%. Ticket searches, the measure closest to buying, is the narrowest at 73.2%.
What would have to be true for this to be wrong
Five demand instruments and twelve answer-engine calls, run b62a2d44, October 24, 2026, $0.249 metered. Source timeline traced October 25, 2026 from IMAX investor-presentation reporting, a Disney press release of April 16, 2026, Variety, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, Forbes and Gizmodo. The IMAX deck itself was not retrieved and read here, and the page says so.
Every row behind this answer is published in the standing study at cultmath.com/research/film/premium-format-exclusivity, which is re-run on a schedule and corrected in place, dated.

This is one of six decisions covered in the film decision brief — each with the evidence behind it, who owns it, who it is contested with, and what would have to be true for the answer to flip.
