How long does Dune: Part Three have the IMAX screens?

It depends which source you take, and the two do not have equal backing. The version that traces to IMAX’s own investor presentation describes the opening weekend of December 18, 2026. A widely repeated version says three weeks, and it traces to a post by the account Empire City Box Office on X, reported by a film blog that hedged it. We could not find the three-week figure in any primary source. If you need this for a plan, use the opening weekend and treat anything longer as unconfirmed.

The evidence

The shorter version has the better source.

Gizmodo, February 26, 2026, links the IMAX investor presentation directly and describes exclusive US IMAX rights for the opening weekend. GamesRadar, the same day, cites slide 13 of the same deck and states precedence on December 18 without giving any duration at all.

The longer version traces to a social media post.

World of Reel reported the three-week claim on January 16, 2026, attributing it to the account Empire City Box Office on X and introducing it with “apparently”. TheMovieBlog carried the same claim the same month. Neither adds a primary source.

Both AI answer engines gave the longer version, with a citation that does not contain it.

Asked which film to see, Perplexity recommended Dune: Part Three in all three identical calls and said the exclusivity runs at least its first three weeks. It cited the GamesRadar article, which states no duration. A confident number with a real source attached, where the source does not contain the number, survives a spot check that the figure would not.

Dune also has IMAX dates before the wide release.

Limited early IMAX 15/70 tickets went on sale on April 6, 2026 for 19 locations worldwide — 15 in North America, two in Canada, one in Melbourne and one in London — reported by Forbes. That is a separate matter from the opening-weekend allocation and is sometimes conflated with it.

What would have to be true for this to be wrong

If IMAX or Warner Bros. publishes the deal terms, or a trade confirms a multi-week window against a named source, the three-week figure becomes the right one and this page is updated in place and dated. Absence of a primary source is not proof the claim is false — it is a reason not to put the number in a plan yet.

This is one of six decisions covered in the film decision brief — each with the evidence behind it, who owns it, who it is contested with, and what would have to be true for the answer to flip.
