How much of a games publisher's revenue coming from one franchise is too much?

Nobody can tell you a threshold, because almost nobody publishes the number. Across every 10-K filed between January 2025 and October 2026, six games companies carry a quantified franchise-concentration disclosure. Six. The market prices a franchise run-rate miss at two to three times a schedule miss, so the number matters precisely where it is missing.

The evidence

Take-Two publishes it. Its nearest peer does not.

Take-Two's FY2026 10-K: Grand Theft Auto products 12.4% of net revenue, five best-selling franchises 54.3%, five largest customers 80.6%. Electronic Arts carries the identical risk factor and attaches no percentage to any franchise.

The disclosed field is six companies.

EA, Take-Two, Snail, Playtika, PLAYSTUDIOS and Motorsport Games. The phrases you would search under — “derived from a limited number of games” and “depend on a small number of games” — return zero 10-K hits.

Where it is disclosed, it is extreme.

Snail: the ARK franchise at 89.4% of net revenue, five best-selling titles at 96.6%. Playtika: Bingo Blitz at 23% of revenues, top ten games at 90.2%. Ubisoft: back-catalogue at 84.0% of net bookings, against 70.2% the prior year.

12.4% is a floor, not a run-rate.

Grand Theft Auto V is thirteen years old and GTA VI had not shipped when that year closed. FY2026 net revenue was $6,656.4M, so GTA products ran around $825M — against FY2027 guidance of $7,900–8,100M with GTA VI launching November 19, 2026.

What the market pays for each kind of slip.

A date slip is priced as timing: the GTA VI delays moved the stock around 5%, and 5.8–7% on the second, though sources disagree on that one. A run-rate slip is priced as impairment: EA's FY25 bookings cut moved 16–18%, and Sony impaired Bungie by ¥120.1 billion.

What would have to be true for this to be wrong

If your franchise is an annualised sports or live title with a renewing audience rather than a release-cycle hit, concentration behaves differently and the comparison set above is the wrong one. The figures describe publishers whose revenue arrives in launches.

This is one of six decisions covered in the games publisher decision brief — each with the evidence behind it, who owns it, who it is contested with, and what would have to be true for the answer to flip.
